About Last Chance Nordic Ski Club (LCNSC)
The Last Chance Nordic Ski Club promotes Nordic (cross country) skiing in the Helena area and grooms two areas for use by the general public – the MacDonald Pass trail system and Bill Roberts golf course. The groomed trails are available to Nordic skiers at no charge.
The MacDonald Pass ski trails are readily accessible to Helena area residents and visitors given their proximity right off Highway 12 on the continental divide. The pass provides the most dependable ski venue given generally consistent cold and snow conditions during the winter. The club also grooms the Bill Roberts golf course under an agreement with the city parks department when conditions permit.
Project / Needs
Current projects include the purchase of a new snowmobile for use in grooming the golf course since our current machine is quite old and unreliable. In addition, the club incurs ongoing expenses related to grooming activity, particularly on MacDonald Pass, but also the operating expenses related to golf course grooming when snow conditions permit.
The club charges a membership fee and receives some donations from members and the general public at MacDonald pass (where a donation tube is located at the trail head). The club also seeks funds from grant programs with the US Forest Service and Montana FWP to support the maintenance and grooming of the MacDonald Pass trail system.
How will the funds be used
Funds received at the AFCN would be used to supplement other sources of funding to support general club efforts, including grooming expenses and capital expenditures for grooming equipment.
