About Montana Vets – Montana Waters, Inc.
Montana Vets ~ Montana Waters’ mission is to assist Montana’s veterans in transitioning from their service-related physical and emotional wounds by providing them with premium quality outdoor experiences primarily centered around fly fishing on Montana’s rivers, lakes, and streams.
MV-MW primarily provides it services to Veterans in Southwest Montana, although one of it’s long term goals is to expand the availability of these services to Veterans throughout the state. This expansion of our services is motivated by our desire to take them to Veterans rather than, in effect, requiring Veterans to come to various locations in Southwest Montana to take advantage of them.
Project / Needs
During the week of May 7, 2017, MV-MW was able to provide therapeutic services to 24 Montana Veterans (12 women and 12 men) in partnership with the Complete Fly Fisher Lodge in Wise River, Montana. Both groups each enjoyed 3 days of professionally guided fly fishing on the Big Hole River and luxurious overnight accommodations.
At present, another overnight fishing trip is scheduled to occur in August for six Veterans, and a two other trips are currently being planned.
MV-MW participates in organized fundraising through its membership in the Montana Non-Profit Association and the Helena Area Community Foundation, and by participating in the Joining Community Forces veteran support efforts.
Private donations are also sought after through personal contact with Montana businesses and philanthropic organizations.
How will the funds be used
All funds raised through AFCN will be used to defray the costs associated providing therapeutic services to Montana Veterans. For example, MV-MW purchases fly fishing rods, reels, and line to give to Veterans who don’t have their own equipment, to purchase fly tying equipment and materials for fly tying classes, and to help pay the discounted rates offered by many licensed guides and outfitters who partner with MV-MW.
All of these funds will be spent in Montana.
