About Girls Thrive
Girls Thrive (GT) is a volunteer-operated nonprofit organization that is on a mission to inspire young women ages 10-18 to empower themselves through a variety of sports and educational activities designed to improve self-confidence, self-esteem and positive body image. Currently, GT offers three programs throughout the year in the winter, spring, and fall, and provides program scholarships and gear for any girl in need who wants to participate.
During GT’s core programs in the fall and spring, girls meet three times per week for mountain biking, running, cross-training and a variety of educational lessons. Current cross-training activities included in the curriculum are: yoga, indoor rock climbing, self-defense, kickboxing, hiking, swimming and local trail maintenance. A vast variety of educational topics are covered: proper running and biking safety, form and technique, gaining and maintaining positive body image, philanthropy, nutrition, hydration, good decision-making, teamwork, handling peer pressure, and many more.
GT does not place limits on the service area. Previous GT participants have come from a variety of areas including: Helena, the Helena Valley, Montana City, and East Helena.
Project / Needs
GT continually needs to raise money to provide this program to these young women and maintain its sustainability in this amazing community. GT provides bikes, scholarships, and sports gear to all girls in need, which has significant associated costs. Because safety is our number one priority, we ensure that all of the gear we provide is in trail-ready condition. The maintenance, transportation, and storage costs of these items are significant.
GT Executive Director, Blair Haseman, is continually applying for grants, working with the local community on annual partnerships, and fundraising for this important program. Our only current fundraising event for 2018 thus far will be a Windbag Cares event on March 20, 2018, although we do plan to continue to apply for other opportunities within the community.
How will the funds be used
Funds from the Lewis & Clark Ales for Charity Night will be used to provide scholarships and purchase bikes, running shoes and other gear for those in need. These funds will also be used to maintain, repair, and store bikes, so they can be used by many girls in the future.
